Here are the expert instructors leading Bird Golf Digital:
Brian Newman, PGA is a Class A PGA member with over 17 years of teaching experience, having instructed more than 1,000 hours per year throughout his career. He’s launched and owned three golf academies and brings a unique combination of golf instruction and fitness expertise. A certified personal trainer and Titleist Performance Institute specialist, Brian has spent over a decade studying the intersection of biomechanics and golf performance. He has been featured in PGA and GFAA magazines, appeared at TPI and PGA coaching summits, and invented multiple award-winning golf training aids.
Shirley Furlong, LPGA brings credentials that speak for themselves: an All-American at Texas A&M, 15 years on the LPGA Tour with multiple top-5 finishes, including a victory at the 1988 Keystone Open. She’s also a member of both the Texas A&M Hall of Fame and the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. But what makes Shirley exceptional as an instructor is her lifelong dedication to studying the game under legends like Betty Dodd, Chuck Cook, and Dee Dee Owens.
Brien Paquette, PGA has been a PGA member since 1990 and brings an impressive competitive background to his teaching. He’s qualified seven times for the National Club Pro Championship, played in the Greater Milwaukee Open, and served as Head Professional at several prestigious private clubs including Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida.
Peter Cherry, PGA is a transplanted Englishman with over 30 years of professional experience. His career began at prestigious English clubs, including Harpenden GC, Royal Mid-Surrey GC, and Ashridge GC. An NAIA All-American at the College of Boca Raton, Peter is also an exceptional player—he holds five course records, has won numerous PGA Championships, and qualified for the 2021 Senior British Open Championship.
Gregory McFee, PGA brings 37 years of PGA experience and a unique background that includes teaching at the prestigious Harder Hall Resort and serving as Head Professional at Concord Country Club in Boston for nine years. His student list includes several professionals, celebrities, iconic runner Roger Bannister, and even a US President. Greg credits legendary teachers Billy Harmon, Mike Adams, and Brian Smith with shaping his teaching methodology.
Scott Ezell, PGA has over 38 years of teaching experience, having worked with everyone from tour players (including Brendon De Jonge and Heather Farr) to collegiate athletes to complete beginners. He spent 20 years as the PGA Director of Instruction at the University of Virginia’s Birdwood Golf Academy and five years as Director of the Golf Academy at Wintergreen Resort. He’s also worked with celebrities including John Grisham, Howie Long, and Ernie Banks.
Andrew Hammett, PGA brings 15 years of teaching experience and an impressive competitive background. He played collegiately at Ferris State University, securing five victories and competing in three NCAA Championships. He also competed professionally on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica Tour in 2019 and 2020. As a coach, Andrew has taught over 5,000 lessons and developed 40 junior golfers into college golf opportunities and scholarships.
