A PGA member since 1995, Scott was the Director of the Golf Academy at Wintergreen Resort for five years before becoming the Director of Instruction at the Birdwood Golf Academy (at the University of Virginia) where he stayed for 20 years. He is the author of several instructional articles and teaching manuals in numerous publications. He has worked with several Tour players (Brendon De Young and Heather Farr), and numerous Collegiate players. Scott has also had the pleasure of working with quite a few celebrities including John Grisham, Howie Long, and Ernie Banks to name a few. Scott incorporates a variety of teaching methods to help his students and his personality and sense of humor will make your learning experience both fun and rewarding. He teaches by the creed “one thing at a time” and “one thought at a time”.

Teaching Philosophy

For over 30 years, Scott has worked with players of all ability levels, from new golfers to Tour players; he has coached many juniors onto the collegiate level and beyond. His teaching experience enables him to use a variety of strategies matching his student’s personality, goals and athletic ability with an effective teaching approach. Scott’s objective for all his students is to help them grasp a clear understanding of their swing and necessary changes, leaving them with a positive picture of what, why, and how to become a better player. Scott believes in time-proven fundamentals with regards to set-up and swing shape. His primary goal is helping the student achieve a repeatable swing and impact position. He uses multiple drills that are designed to be both fun and effective. One of Scott’s strengths is his ability to teach the total game, emphasizing the importance of having a great short game and owning sharp course management skills. Having played competitively in college and on the Canadian tour, Scott understands the importance of playing to your strengths while understanding how to use them effectively on the course. Scott’s personality and sense of humor will make your learning experience both fun and rewarding. He teaches by the creed “one thing at a time” and “one thought at a time.”
