NEW STARS FOR 2008
In the last few weeks the cream of the crop has definitely risen to the top. Tiger won his first PGA tour start at Torrey Pines (where the US Open will be held later this year) and Anika won her first LPGA Tour event in more than a year, in Hawaii. Have there ever been two such phenomenal athletes playing their sports at the same time?
And then, lefty, Phil Mickelson, won at Riviera last weekend (Tiger was not in the field). Established superstars, all. There are however some new young players on both Tours that will be worthy of watching this year.
JASON DAY. A 20 year old Australian phenom. Day played last year on the Nationwide Tour where he qualified for the PGA Tour, this year. He bombs it. For miles. Day might just be better than Adam Scott, and that is really saying something.
MARTIN KAYMER. Kaymer is last year’s Rookie of the Year on the European Tour. This 23 year old German, has just won his first event at the Abu Dahbi Golf Championship, where he beat a star studded field and won by 4 shots. A very impressive swing.
YANI TSENG. Another phenom. This young lady is from Taiwan, and she can really play; and she hits the ball a long way. Finished 8th. in her first LPGA event last week at Turtle Bay, and we predict “Rookie of the Year” honors for this young star.
