Matt Gagnon

PGA member Matt Gagnon, is originally from Gainesville, Florida and now resides in Fort Myers, Florida. He has been involved with the game his entire life, playing in hundreds of junior golf events around the Southeast with dozens of wins and top 5 finishes.

Prior to joining the Bird Golf team, Matt was the Lead Instructor for the Andy Scott School of Golf and Fort Myers Golf Academy in Fort Myers, Florida. Matt’s teaching experience is made up of over 5,000hours of instruction and has created a large teaching base in the South West Florida region.

Matt has ample experience using Trackman, Foresight and Full Swing with students of all abilities for the past several years. He feels that advanced training technology improves diagnostics and training techniques, thus speeding up the learning process. Matt considers himself a coach, not just a swing instructor. He feels it is important that these two roles stay balanced in order to achieve the most success with all students.

Teaching Philosophy

PGAI believe that in order to be a successful instructor you must first have great communication skills and a true passion to teach. Without these two essential fundamentals, teaching golf will be unsuccessful. In addition, to become an exceptional instructor, I believe that there are six important fundamentals:
  • Understand how people learn.
  • Knowledge of different personality traits, and how each personality learns in their own unique way.
  • Expertise of the golf swing. Our philosophy of the golf swing is simplicity, solid set up, and finding a golf swing that fits the individual.
  • Knowledge in fitness and physical analysis to help the student understand what their bodies are capable of and the potential they might have with improvements to balance, strength, and flexibility.
  • Establish a solid student-teacher relationship. (A relationship that is built on comfort, respect, and enjoyment through the student seyes)
  • Develop common goals between student and teacher to produce an overall growth to practice habits, playability, and enjoyment of the game.
